Playing Music

Presenters often want to play music to the conference room while guests are signing in and waiting for the presentation to begin.

If your music is on a portable audio device, such as an iPod, you can jack the iPod output into your microphone input using a patch cable. When you are ready to speak, plug in your normal microphone. Use a second computer to hear how the music feed is coming through, and adjust audio levels appropriately.

If your music is on your PC, and you want to play it back using Windows Media or another software music player, then you will need to configure your computer to loop back the audio output to the audio input so that guests in the conference room can hear the same audio that you hear on your PC.

Web Meet Live receives audio input from the system’s default audio input device, so playing music into the room can be accomplished by changing the default input device to the loop back device and restarting Web Meet Live. When you are ready to speak, restore the default input device to the normal Microphone input, then restart Web Meet lIve again.

This is advanced material, and to avoid confusion during a live session, we strongly suggest using two computers: one to play music before the presentation begins, and a second computer to give the actual presentation. TEST YOUR CONFIGURATION in advance of your live presentation.

To change the default input device, open the sound settings in your Windows Control Panel, or select Microphone Volume from the File menu inside your web conference room:

On Windows XP and earlier, you will see something like the following, where the Microphone input is selected as the default:

To loop back your audio, select Stereo Mix, Wave Out Mix or What U Hear as shown here:

After changing the default audio device, you will need to exit the conference room then log in again for the settings to take effect.

If you do not see a loop back input such as Stereo Mix, Wave Out Mix or What U Hear then click on the Options menu, select Properties, and you will see Properties for your input device. Make sure that Stereo Mix is selected as shown here:

On Windows Vista, the Capture device settings are somewhat different. Sometimes, only the Microphone input is available, as shown here:

If you do not see a loop back device such as Wave Out Mix, then right click in the blank area, and select the options to Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices:

Once disabled devices are visible, you can right click Wave Out Mix and select Enable from the context menu:

With Wave Out Mix is enabled, you can right click it again to Set as Default Device:

Note that the green check mark now appears on Wave Out Mix showing that it is the new default Recording device:

After changing the default audio device, you will need to exit the conference room then log in again for the settings to take effect.

Your Microphone will not function until Microphone is selected as the default input device again, and you have restarted the conference room
